Qualifications gained abroad
If you wish to work with electricity in Sweden, you are not required to have official Swedish authorisation. You must, however, be covered by an electrical installation company’s self-audit scheme.
That means it is up to the company to decide what qualifications you need and what kinds of work you are allowed to do on behalf of the company. Of course, if you would like to become an authorised electrician, you can apply for authorisation from the National Electrical Safety Board. Make sure you find out exactly which requirements are relevant to your application.
There is also an application fee to pay when applying for authorisation.

- Regulated profession in another EEA country or Switzerland
If you already have an authorisation, registration or certification as an authorised electrician in another EEA country
- Regulated education in another EEA country or Switzerland
Electrician is not a regulated profession in some countries within the EEA. If you have qualifications from a country with a regulated education you can have them recognised in Sweden too, this if you also have the equivalent professional qualifications that is required.
- Education from a country outside Sweden
If you received your education in a country other than Sweden you must meet an education and practical experience requirement to obtain authorisation as an authorised electrician.
