Importers and dealers

The manufacturer has the primary responsibility for a product being safe but all players of the delivery chain, the importer, the distributor, the retailer etc. are responsible for distributing only products that are safe.

When the manufacturer reside outside EEA the importer plays an important role since it is the importer who places the product on the market in Sweden. Almost all electrical products have to be CE-marked and they are not allowed on the European market unless they have a CE-mark. If the product is fitted with a plug, the plug shall be Swedish.

Declaration of Conformity

On request, the importer shall provide the Swedish National Electrical Safety Board with a Declaration of Conformity as well as technical documentation for the product irrespective of whether the product has been imported from a different EEA country or a country outside the EEA.

Dealers are responsible for the safety of products

Dealers are also responsible for ensuring that the products they sell are safe. Just like an importer, a dealer must be able to provide an EU declaration and technical documentation within five days.
If neither the importer nor the manufacturer can be contacted, the responsibility for the safety of the product and providing technical documentation lies with the dealer.
